Boeing Dodges Strike Threat, Avoids Delays to 737 MAX 10 and 777X Certification
Boeing has dodged a potential strike that could have impacted certification efforts for two of its aircraft, the 737 MAX 10 and 777X. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) approved a new four-year contract with Boeing, averting a work stoppage.
The union's members voted to approve the revised agreement, which includes a guaranteed 10% wage increase followed by 4% annual raises, and the potential for an additional 2% based on performance. The previous contracts were set to expire on October 6, and a strike could have begun as soon as October 7.
The certification efforts for the two aircraft face less pressure now that the union has approved the new contract. A work stoppage would have slowed certification work tied to the 737 MAX 10 and 777X, and also interfered with plans to ramp up manufacturing and speed up deliveries.
