The US Federal Aviation Administration has ordered inspections of some Boeing Dreamliner jets after a company investigation found potential manufacturing errors. The Boeing probe concluded that shim gaps may have exceeded engineering allowances, potentially leading to fatigue cracks at fastener holes.

The FAA released an airworthiness directive on Wednesday, stating that the high pull-up forces on components may cause fatigue cracks to form at the fastener holes. This is a result of a company investigation into potential manufacturing errors uncovered by Boeing.
