Boeing Engineers Secure Higher Raises in Tentative Contract Deal
A Boeing labor dispute may be headed for resolution after the company and the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) reached a tentative four-year contract agreement.
The proposed deal would give approximately 17,000 engineers and technical workers a 10% immediate raise on October 16, followed by annual increases through 2030. Workers would receive 4% general wage increases each year from 2027 to 2030 in addition to merit-based increases.
This is a significant improvement over Boeing's earlier offer, which included annual general wage increases of just 3%. SPEEA members had expressed concerns that such increases could leave their pay struggling to keep pace with inflation. The Consumer Price Index for the Seattle area increased 4.5% over the year through July.
Boeing said its revised proposal was designed to address employee and union concerns, including an immediate wage increase and larger wage pools with guarantees. 'Our final contract offer addresses the top priorities identified by our employees and SPEEA's bargaining teams,' Boeing Vice President Ben Nimmergut said in a statement.
