Boeing Engineers Vote on Contract Deal with 3% Pay Cap
A vote is underway among Boeing's engineers and technical workers to approve or reject a proposed contract that could prevent further delays in the company's aircraft production. The current four-year deal includes inflation-linked raises, but with a 3% cap on pay increases that has sparked concerns among union members.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) is overseeing the vote, which ends on August 21. Boeing offered the new terms to avoid a strike, and some SPEEA members have expressed surprise at the proposal being better than expected.
However, the councils of both SPEEA bargaining units did not endorse the agreement. The technical unit's council advised union members to vote against the contract, while the engineering unit's council failed to secure the necessary 60% of votes to recommend either accepting or rejecting the offer.
