Boeing Expands Ethiopian Airlines Partnership with 787-9 Landing Gear Support
Ethiopian Airlines has expanded its Boeing maintenance support agreement to include 10 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marking a significant expansion of their existing partnership. The airline's current fleet of 19 Boeing 787-8 aircraft is already enrolled in the Landing Gear Exchange Programme, which allows them to replace landing gear units requiring overhaul with certified replacements from Boeing's global inventory.
Landing gear is a critical component that requires scheduled overhauls and careful inventory planning to avoid extended downtime. The programme helps reduce maintenance costs and supply-chain risks by managing replacement parts, engineering support, and technical resources for the airline.
Ethiopian Airlines Chief Operating Officer Retta Melaku praised the programme's benefits, stating 'Based on our experience in implementing the Boeing Landing Gear Exchange programme for the 787-8 airplanes in our fleet, we have seen first-hand the value it can provide.'
