Boeing Faces $29M Verdict in Miami Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Miami-based lawyers from Podhurst Orseck have secured a $29 million wrongful death verdict against Boeing in a case related to a 737 MAX jet crash.

The verdict, one of the few public payouts Boeing has faced since admitting liability for its role in two 737 MAX crashes that killed 346 people, was handed down by a U.S. District Court in Illinois on August 25, 2026.

The lawyers overcame several quirks of the court, including a ban on punitive damages claims and a different type of voir dire, to achieve this result for the widow of a man killed in the crash.

'You're dealing with a sterile case,' plaintiff counsel said, but the verdict marks an important milestone for Boeing's liability in these cases.
