Boeing Finds Hidden Software Glitch in 737 MAX

Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software glitch in its 737 MAX aircraft that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. The issue, which emerged from a cockpit software update, can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path after a missed approach.

The problem affects the automated flight guidance system, which may not be available to pilots during a specific landing scenario. Boeing informed all 737 operators about the issue last month and is working on a software update to permanently address the problem.

Boeing has been under intense regulatory scrutiny since two fatal 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 led to a worldwide grounding of the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also aware of the potential issue and will convene a Corrective Action Review Board to assess the situation.
