Boeing Focuses on US Certification for MAX 7 Amid Limited Global Demand
Boeing has secured US certification for its Boeing 737 MAX 7 without pursuing European validation, focusing on the aircraft's main customer base in the United States. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued the amended type certificate on August 3, 2026, allowing deliveries to begin early next year.
The decision is driven by the MAX 7's order book, with Southwest Airlines accounting for around 90% of orders. This concentration gives Boeing a clear commercial priority: delivering the aircraft to its main customer, which has been preparing for years and links certification directly to its fleet plans.
Manufacturers often prioritize certification in jurisdictions where customers are located, particularly when an aircraft has limited global demand. The MAX 7's situation is no exception, with one US carrier accounting for such a large share of its backlog.
