Boeing Lands 10-Cargo-Aircraft Order from Ethiopian Airlines
Boeing has secured an order from Ethiopian Airlines for 10 widebody cargo aircraft. The company announced on September 30 that eight 777-8 Freighters and two current-generation 777 Freighters have been ordered, marking the first African airline to commit to the newer 777-8 Freighter model.
Ethiopian Airlines has an existing relationship with Boeing, having already ordered eight 777-9 passenger jets. The new order brings its total commitments across the 777X family to 16 aircraft, with the two 777 Freighters being separate from that count.
Boeing noted that Ethiopian already operates a diverse fleet of cargo aircraft, including 12 Boeing 777 Freighters, two 767 Freighters, and four 737-800SF aircraft across more than 70 cargo markets. The new order is expected to add capacity to the airline's network spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
