Boeing lands $14.7 billion contract to triple PAC-3 MSE seeker head production
Boeing has secured a $14.7 billion contract with the Pentagon to triple the production of seeker heads for the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptor missiles over the next seven years. The agreement aligns with the Pentagon's defense procurement strategy and follows an earlier framework announced in April. Production will take place at Boeing's facility in Huntsville, Alabama, with work already underway.
Steve Parker, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, emphasized that early investments and a focus on quality have enabled the company to scale up production volumes rapidly. The seeker heads are critical components that detect and track targets, including ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as hostile aerial platforms. Once a target is acquired, the maneuverable PAC-3 MSE interceptor, equipped with a dual-pulse solid-fuel rocket motor, destroys it through direct collision.
This contract complements Lockheed Martin's plans to increase production of complete PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles. In January, Lockheed Martin announced a seven-year framework agreement to boost annual production from approximately 600 to 2,000 units, highlighting a broader push to enhance missile defense capabilities.
