Boeing lands $14.7 billion deal to boost Patriot missile seeker production
Boeing has secured a $14.7 billion contract from Lockheed Martin to significantly ramp up production of seekers for Patriot interceptor missiles. The agreement, announced on October 5, 2026, supports a seven-year plan to triple the production of seekers for the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor. The seeker is a critical component that identifies and tracks targets, guiding the missile toward incoming threats.
The contract allows Boeing to commence work while finalizing pricing and other terms with Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin serves as the prime contractor for the PAC-3 MSE missile, while Boeing provides the seeker technology. The contract specifically covers the targeting equipment, not the complete missile or ground-based launch systems.
This latest deal follows a framework agreement Boeing announced with the Pentagon on April 1, 2026. That plan aimed to boost production capacity immediately while negotiations for a multiyear contract continued. Boeing has already invested over $200 million since 2024 to expand its seeker production facility in Huntsville, Alabama, including a 35,000-square-foot facility expansion.
Boeing reported a more than 30% increase in seeker deliveries in 2025, with hiring and production expansions beginning earlier this year. The new contract is expected to generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in the Huntsville area. The company has also upgraded manufacturing facilities and collaborated with suppliers to support higher output levels.
