Boeing lands $14.7 billion deal to triple missile seeker production
Boeing (NYSE: BA) has secured a massive $14.7 billion contract from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) to significantly boost production of the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) seekers. This contract formalizes a previously announced seven-year agreement, with the primary goal of tripling the output of these critical components. The seekers are integral to Patriot interceptor missiles, which are designed to neutralize threats such as hostile aircraft, hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.
The contract will drive job creation, with hundreds of direct and indirect positions expected to be added in the Huntsville, Alabama area. Production ramp-up and hiring efforts began earlier this year following the framework agreement. Boeing has already invested in expanding its PAC-3 seeker factory, modernizing facilities, and improving production processes in anticipation of the contract award.
Steve Parker, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, emphasized the company's preparedness, stating, "Early investment and a relentless focus on quality and execution have positioned us to now deliver seekers at unprecedented levels in the near-term, and we're committed to building on that momentum." The contract aligns with the U.S. Department of Defense's Acquisition Transformation Strategy, aiming to accelerate the delivery of critical capabilities to military personnel.
