Boeing lands $14.7 billion Lockheed contract for PAC-3 MSE seekers
Boeing has secured a major contract valued at up to $14.7 billion from Lockheed Martin. The seven-year agreement, announced on October 5, 2026, will enable Boeing to significantly ramp up production of PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) seekers. These seekers are critical guidance components used in the Patriot air defense system to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft.
The contract allows Boeing to triple its production capacity for PAC-3 MSE seekers. This follows a broader initiative by the Trump administration to prioritize weapons production over shareholder returns. In January, Lockheed Martin reached a framework agreement with the US Department of War to increase annual production of PAC-3 missile interceptors from about 600 to 2,000 units per year.
However, industry executives have raised concerns that Congress has not yet appropriated funding for these deals. This could limit contractors' ability to invest in components and facilities until lawmakers take action. The demand for these interceptors has surged due to ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, which have strained US weapons stockpiles. In July, the US Army awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth up to $58.6 billion to boost PAC-3 missile production.
