Boeing Lands $20 Billion Contract for Next-Gen US Navy Fighter Jet
Boeing has secured a $20 billion contract to build the U.S. Navy's next-generation F/A-XX fighter jet, a sixth-generation aircraft that will replace the current F/A-18 Super Hornet fleet beginning in the 2030s.
The F/A-XX is part of the Next Generation Air Dominance program and aims to extend the reach and survivability of U.S. naval aviation. It will also operate alongside unmanned systems as the Navy develops a new generation of carrier aircraft.
Boeing was competing with Northrop Grumman for the contract, but its president and CEO, Steve Parker, said the company's decades-long work, innovative technologies, and investment in new facilities make it well-equipped to handle the project. The F/A-XX will feature an open mission systems architecture and advanced mission systems.
