Boeing Lands $20 Billion Contract for Next-Generation Strike Fighter
The US Department of Defense has awarded Boeing a contract worth more than $20 billion to develop the F/A-XX, the Navy's new sixth-generation strike fighter. The aircraft is designed as part of the Next Generation Air Dominance program and will operate from aircraft carriers, expanding the operational range of naval forces in highly contested environments.
The investment will fund the construction of multiple test units for ground evaluations, airworthiness testing, and integrating advanced weapons systems. This marks Boeing's second sixth-generation fighter program, following its selection to develop the Air Force's F-47 in 2025.
According to Steve Parker, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, the company has invested heavily in leading both programs simultaneously from its St. Louis, Missouri manufacturing facility.
The acquisition of the F/A-XX is part of the doctrine of maintaining peace through military strength in the face of global competitors. The program's launch marks a new era for naval aviation and represents a generational leap in air superiority.
