Boeing Lands $20 Billion Deal for Navy's Next-Generation Stealth Fighter
Boeing has secured a $20 billion development contract to build the U.S. Navy's next-generation F/A-XX stealth fighter, solidifying its position as the dominant prime contractor in sixth-generation combat aviation.
The award follows Boeing's selection last year to build the U.S. Air Force's F-47 stealth fighter, making it the sole contractor for both sixth-generation crewed fighter programs.
Northrop Grumman was the only other competitor for the contract after Lockheed Martin exited the competition in March 2025 due to design issues.
The F/A-XX program will form the core of the Navy's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) family of systems, featuring advanced stealth, greater range and endurance, and the ability to operate alongside unmanned combat aircraft and ship-based air defense systems.
