Boeing Lands $20B Contract for Navy's Next-Gen Fighter Aircraft

The US Navy has awarded Boeing a contract worth at least $20 billion to build its next-generation fighter aircraft, known as F/A-XX. The deal was announced on Tuesday and will see Boeing manufacture the aircraft in St. Louis, where it already produces other military planes such as the F-18 Super Hornet and EA-18 Growler.

The F/A-XX is expected to replace these older models sometime in the 2030s and will be built alongside the Air Force's next-generation fighter, the F-47. Boeing's president and CEO of Defense, Space & Security, Steve Parker, hailed the win as an 'honor' and said that his company was ready to execute this critical program.

The contract is a significant boost for Missouri, where the aircraft will be built. Federal lawmakers from both parties praised the decision, with Rep. Wesley Bell saying it underscores Boeing's commitment to national security and local machinists' skill in crafting these planes.
