Boeing Lands $2.38 Billion Deal for Additional F-15EX Fighters
The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $2.38 billion contract to produce 22 additional F-15EX Eagle II fighters, narrowly meeting a deadline to use funds from last summer's reconciliation bill or face cuts.
This deal brings the total number of F-15EXs under contract to 120, with the Air Force having originally planned to end production at 129 jets. However, in April, they increased the total program to 269 aircraft.
The F-15EX is a heavily upgraded version of the fourth-generation F-15, featuring digital fly-by-wire flight controls, an all-glass touch-screen cockpit, and advanced electronic warfare capabilities.
Boeing earned this deal on the same day as it was selected by the Navy to build its next-generation air dominance fighter, the F/A-XX. This means Boeing has won both the Air Force's and Navy's sixth-generation fighter competitions.
