Boeing Lands Big Cargo Deal with Ethiopian Airlines
Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines have signed an agreement to deliver eight 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters to the African carrier. This marks Ethiopian Airlines' second order for the 777X airplane line, following a previous purchase of eight 777-9 passenger jets.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, stated that the agreement represents 'another significant milestone in strengthening Ethiopian Airlines' cargo capabilities while supporting the continued expansion of our global network.'
The new aircraft will offer higher payload capacity and range capability than current models, making them ideal for expanding Ethiopian Airlines' global reach. The 777-8F Freighter features a maximum structural payload of 118 tonnes and aims to reduce fuel use and operating costs.
According to the agreement, the delivery of the new aircraft will complement the airline's existing freighter fleet while maintaining key features such as common cross-sections and walkways for efficient operations. Ethiopian Airlines sees this order as a key component in further reinforcing its position as a leading cargo gateway between Africa and international markets.
