Boeing Lands Major Contract for MH-139A Grey Wolf Helicopters
Boeing scored another major win this week with a $85 million order for four more MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters, marking the first full-rate production contract. This follows hot on the heels of two other significant contracts awarded to Boeing: a development deal worth over $20 billion to build the F/A-XX sixth-generation carrier-based fighter and an order for 22 more F-15EX Eagle II fighters valued at $2.38 billion.
The Grey Wolf helicopters, which are based on Leonardo's commercial AW139 platform, will replace aging UH-1N Huey aircraft in securing intercontinental ballistic missiles across the country's strategic missile fields. With this order, Boeing now has a total of 42 Grey Wolves under contract, with 27 already delivered.
The first operational mission flown by the MH-139A was a six-hour escort of missile maintenance and armored security vehicles at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. The helicopter's advanced defensive systems and ability to carry twice as many troops as the Huey make it a significant upgrade for the service.
