Boeing Lands Massive $131B F-15 Contract from US Air Force

The US Air Force has awarded Boeing an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract to support F-15 production and modernization. The Eagle Crest contract is worth up to $131.2 billion over a decade if fully utilized.

According to Heather Penney, a former F-16 pilot and director of studies at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, this approach could provide stability and flexibility for both the Air Force and Boeing. 'This IDIQ contract could be one way that the service begins to solve that problem' of strains across the defense industrial base.

The contract covers a wide range of F-15 activities, including aircraft production, systems integration, modernization, upgrades, retrofits, sustainment, and setting up organic depot maintenance capabilities. It also involves foreign military sales to Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Poland.

Penney noted that the contract's success depends on the Air Force providing clear signals to Boeing about quantities, rates, and other business expectations in the near future. 'The thing that industry needs is they need the demand signal, they need the stability, and they need the resourcing,' she said.
