Boeing Lands Record $44.6 Billion Deal with Korean Air Amid Delayed Turkish Order
Boeing has finalized a massive deal with Korean Air for 103 new jets, setting a record for both companies. The $44.6 billion order includes 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s, and eight 777-8 Freighter airplanes. This marks the largest jet purchase in Korean Air's history and the biggest widebody order from an Asian carrier for Boeing.
The deal is significant for Boeing as it helps bolster its wide-body order book with about 80% of the new jets replacing older aircraft for Korean Air following its partnership with Asiana Airlines. The transaction also supports an estimated 135,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs at Boeing plants, including Everett, Wash.
Separately, Reuters reports that Boeing is close to completing a previously delayed deal for 150 737 MAX jets with Turkish Airlines. According to sources familiar with the matter, the order was initially threatened due to a dispute over maintenance with engine maker CFM but appears to be back on track and may be signed next week.
