Boeing Lands Two Next-Gen Fighter Programs Amid Tight Deadline
The U.S. Navy has entrusted Boeing with developing its next-generation F/A-XX carrier-based fighter program, which will replace the current F/A-18 fleet.
This award comes after Boeing was already contracted in 2025 to develop the U.S. Air Force's sixth-generation F-47 program, a $20 billion deal aimed at replacing the F-22 Raptor by 2030.
The pressure is now on Boeing to deliver two major next-gen fighter programs within the same timeframe, with the first flight of the F-47 targeted for 2028.
Boeing's artist rendering of the F/A-XX gives a glimpse into what the future fighter jet may look like, but details are scarce at this point.
