Boeing Navigates Labor Peace and Defense Sales Upswing
Boeing has secured a tentative four-year contract with its engineering union, reducing near-term operational risk around jet certifications. The Pentagon also expanded the KC-46 Pegasus Combat Capability contract ceiling to $19.1 billion, including Foreign Military Sales.
The new contract and framework widens future defense sales optionality without yet adding revenue or backlog. Boeing's investment narrative still requires investors to believe in a long repair job. High aircraft demand, a large backlog, and growing services work are expected to push the commercial division out of its current loss-making position.
The key risk is that delays, quality issues, or cash strain could slow any earnings recovery from here. The most relevant fresh data point is Afcom's Letter of Intent for up to four 777-8F freighters. This shows cargo operators still looking to upgrade capacity on longer haul routes.
