Boeing Ordered to Pay $29 Million in Damages Over Deadly Plane Crash

A US court has awarded $29 million in damages to the family of an Irish-born UN employee who died in the 2019 Boeing 737 MAX crash. The civil suit was brought against Boeing by Naoise Connolly Ryan, widow of Michael 'Mick' Ryan, a 39-year-old engineer with the UN World Food Programme.

Ryan had worked on various humanitarian missions around the world, including during the Ebola crisis in Liberia and with Rohingya refugees. He was one of the 157 people killed when Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed in Ethiopia.

The case is one of the final remaining civil suits pending against Boeing following the two deadly MAX crashes that together claimed 346 lives.
