Boeing P-8I Marks 15 Years Since Maiden Flight

The Boeing P-8I, a maritime patrol aircraft tailored for India's needs, took to the skies on September 28, 2011. The first flight marked a crucial milestone in the development of this distinct aircraft.

The plane flew from Renton Field to Boeing Field in Seattle after 2 hours and 31 minutes. Boeing test pilots tested engine accelerations and decelerations, as well as autopilot flight modes. They reached an altitude of 41,000 feet during the successful flight.

The P-8I is based on the US Navy's P-8A Poseidon and was customized for India's maritime patrol requirements. The program brought together Boeing's commercial and defense units, leveraging the Next-Generation 737 production system.
