Boeing Salvages Delayed Turkish Airlines Order Amid Maintenance Dispute
Boeing is close to finalizing a delayed order for 150 of its 737 MAX jets after Turkish Airlines threatened to walk away from the deal due to a dispute over maintenance with engine maker CFM. The delay was caused by disagreement over the airline's request for an industrial deal on engine maintenance.
The order, which is part of a package of 225 jets announced last year, had been held up since Turkish Airlines threatened to cancel it and switch to Airbus. However, sources close to the matter say that Boeing and CFM have reached an agreement on the issue, paving the way for the deal's completion.
The dispute centered around who should bear the risk of long-term repairs, with Turkish Airlines seeking to open its own maintenance plant for engines. The airline wanted to become a top-tier partner of CFM, which would grant it accelerated access to the latest repair technology.
