Boeing Secures $20+ Billion Contract for Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet

Boeing has secured a major contract to develop the F/A-XX sixth-generation carrier-based fighter jet, worth more than $20 billion. The U.S. Department of War reported this.

The contract covers developing several aircraft for ground and flight testing, system validation, and weapons integration. This will make the F/A-XX the primary carrier-based combat aircraft for the U.S. Navy by the 2030s, replacing the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft.

The Boeing team competed against Northrop Grumman in this contract, after Lockheed Martin dropped out of the competition in 2025 due to failing to meet U.S. Navy requirements.
