Boeing Secures $20 Billion Contract for US Navy's Next-Generation Stealth Fighter

Boeing has secured the contract to build the US Navy's next-generation stealth fighter, the F/A-XX program. The $20 billion development contract was awarded after months of delay and funding disputes over concerns about engineering capacity and supply chains.

The win marks Boeing's second consecutive major victory on fighter jets, following its selection in March last year to build the Air Force's new F-47 stealthy fighter.

Boeing's experience building carrier-based fighters for the Navy, including the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, helped offset concerns about the company's ability to execute both programs simultaneously. The contract is a significant boost for Boeing's St. Louis production operations, which will shut down the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler production lines.

Michael Duffey, the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer, described the new jet as 'a crucial, non-negotiable investment in America's national security and long-term air combat capabilities.'

The F/A-XX program is expected to feature advanced stealth capabilities, improved range and endurance, and integration with uncrewed combat aircraft and the Navy's carrier-based air defense systems.
