Boeing Secures $562M Contract for MQ-25A Stingray Production
The US Navy and Boeing have signed a $562 million contract to begin production of the MQ-25A Stingray, an unmanned aerial refueler designed for carrier-based operations. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the Stingray, which is set to enter fleet integration by 2029.
The first three aircraft under Lot 1 Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) will be built at Boeing facilities, with advanced procurement funding allocated for long-lead components to support an additional three aircraft under Lot 2. The Navy's goal is to alleviate F/A-18E/F Super Hornets of tanker tasks, freeing up air wing capacity for strike missions and ordnance.
The MQ-25A has undergone successful flight testing at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, Illinois, demonstrating autonomous taxi, takeoff, flight, and landing capabilities. With a length of 51 feet and a 75-foot wingspan that folds down to 31.3 feet, the Stingray is designed for compact carrier deck handling.
