Boeing Sells Off Autonomous Flight Assets Amid Core Business Revival
Boeing, the aerospace giant, is again selling off parts of its business. This time it's Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid to Archer Aviation for an undisclosed sum.
The move comes after Boeing acquired Spirit AeroSystems in December for $4.7 billion plus debt, which was valued at around $8.3 billion. The company had sold the Kansas and Oklahoma commercial operations to Onex in 2005 for about $900 million.
CEO Kelly Ortberg said that the repurchase of Spirit AeroSystems was a commitment to aviation safety and a way to improve quality in its commercial airplane business. The deal closed on December 8, 2025.
The sale of Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid is different from the Spirit AeroSystems deal. Boeing isn't simply exiting these businesses; it's keeping a stake in Archer Aviation and access to the technology it needs for future commercial and defense aircraft.
