Boeing Shows Signs of Recovery Under Ortberg's Leadership

Boeing has faced numerous challenges over the past two decades, including delays and cost overruns for several of its programs. The company's woes began with the rollout of the 787 in 2007, which was three and a half years late and resulted in more than $50 billion in deferred production and tooling costs.

The 737 Max program was particularly disastrous, with two major accidents leading to a global fleet grounding. The program's recovery efforts were hindered by a door plug blowout in January 2024, which forced Boeing to re-examine its production processes.

However, under the leadership of CEO Kelly Ortberg, who took over in August 2024, Boeing has begun to show signs of improvement. The FAA has granted approval for increased production rates for the 737, and Boeing has made progress in resolving labor disputes with several unions, including a recent agreement with SPEEA.

Despite these positive developments, Boeing still faces significant challenges, including financial losses and ongoing issues with the KC-46A tanker program. The company's financial recovery is expected to take time, but Ortberg's efforts have been seen as a step in the right direction.
