Boeing Soars on Government Support, But Challenges Loom

Instruments
BA
Share

Boeing's shares have risen 7.4% year-to-date, outperforming the Zacks Aerospace-Defense industry's growth of 7%. The government's emphasis on strengthening national defense and space systems could drive Boeing's growth.

The company has a strong backlog with 246 net commercial orders in the second quarter of 2026, and its commercial airplanes segment delivered 171 aircraft, up 14% year-over-year. Boeing's defense business is also thriving, with agreements to establish long-term industrial cooperation supporting the maintenance and ground support of Poland's AH-64E Apache helicopter fleet.

However, Boeing faces challenges such as slow production, delayed deliveries, and ongoing inspections that have led to recent order cancellations. The 777X program has suffered repeated postponements and significant cost overruns due to rigorous FAA scrutiny, design changes, and part cracks.
