Boeing Starts Full-Rate Production of MH-139A Grey Wolf Helicopters for US Air Force
Boeing has secured a contract to deliver the first four MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters to the U.S. Air Force under full-rate production. This marks a significant step in the Air Force's fleet modernization efforts, following the delivery of 27 units, including 20 produced during the low-rate initial production phase.
Kathleen Jolivette, vice president and general manager of vertical lift programs at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, emphasized that the move into full-rate production validates the Grey Wolf's readiness and supports the Air Force's fielding plans. The contract aligns with the Air Force's goal of procuring a total of 42 MH-139A helicopters, ensuring steady aircraft induction to meet operational requirements.
The Air Force declared Initial Operational Capability for the program in August 2026, indicating the system's maturity for wider induction and serial production expansion. Boeing's ongoing deliveries have allowed the service to evaluate systems, conduct crew training, and establish the necessary infrastructure for subsequent program phases.
Joint development and production teams remain focused on meeting requirements to ensure smooth integration into planned fielding timelines. The full-rate production phase is considered crucial for achieving program targets and long-term modernization plans set by Air Force leadership.
