Boeing Stock Plunges on 737 MAX Software Glitch
Boeing's stock price fell by 4.17 percent on September 28, 2026 to $189.82 due to concerns over a software glitch affecting its 737 MAX aircraft.
The issue arose after a cockpit software update and can occur when pilots change the flight path after a missed approach, NBC News reported.
Boeing informed all operators of the 737 MAX about the problem and is working on a permanent software update. Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have requested earlier software versions for new 737 MAX aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reviewing the potential issue and working with Boeing and airlines to address it.
Despite this setback, Boeing's second-quarter revenue rose by 8 percent to $24.6 billion, and commercial airplanes delivered 171 aircraft in the quarter, the highest quarterly total since 2018.
