Boeing Supports Liberty University's DC-8 Overlook Project
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia has received an undisclosed grant from Boeing to support its DC-8 Overlook project. The project features a historic Samaritan's Purse DC-8 aircraft that was donated to the university in December 2025.
The DC-8 aircraft, which served for over 60 years and is now retired, will be preserved as part of the public pavilion at Preston Glenn Field within Lynchburg Regional Airport. The pavilion will include interactive exhibits on humanitarian aviation, hands-on learning modules, and a community space.
According to Lacey Pittman, Boeing's vice president of global aerospace safety, 'By helping preserve this historic aircraft and creating hands-on learning opportunities, this initiative will inspire future aerospace professionals and honor the important role aviation plays in serving communities around the world.'
