Boeing Surges Past Airbus in August Deliveries Amid Production Rebound

Boeing has finally overhauled Airbus in commercial aircraft deliveries for the first time since 2019. In August, Boeing delivered 63 jets to customers, surpassing Airbus's tally of 58 aircraft during the same period.

The margin between the two manufacturers is narrow but significant. It comes after years of Airbus dominating deliveries due to its aggressive production rate and capture of a substantial share of the narrowbody backlog.

Boeing has been working through the aftermath of the January Alaska Airlines door plug incident, which prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to cap 737 MAX production at 38 aircraft per month. The company's ability to clear inventory of previously built 737 MAX and 787 airframes that had accumulated during earlier production and quality disruptions is seen as a key factor in this turnaround.

Airbus faces its own challenges, including engine supply constraints tied to CFM International and Pratt and Whitney. The European manufacturer has trimmed its full-year delivery guidance to approximately 770 aircraft due to these issues.
