Boeing Sweetens Contract Offer Amid Strike Threat
Boeing has sweetened its contract offer to the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) in an effort to avoid a strike. The new proposal, which was made after union members rejected the company's first offer in August, includes a 10% guaranteed wage increase effective October 16th and other wage gains.
The SPEEA negotiating team recommended that members accept the proposed contract, citing improvements from the previous deal. The new offer addresses concerns around remote work, retention, and outsourcing union work to nonunion shops in the US or abroad.
Boeing's vice president and functional chief engineer for product engineering, Ben Nimmergut, stated that the proposal addresses the top priorities identified by employees and SPEEA's bargaining teams. The company is optimistic that this will allow them to focus on important work ahead.
