Boeing Tackles Glitch in 737's Automated Flight Guidance Software
Boeing is working to fix a glitch in the 737's automated flight guidance software that may force pilots to switch to manual control or secondary pitch control modes during a missed approach. The issue, which affects only certain versions of the flight management computer's software, was reported to operators in August and could delay certification for the 737-10.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the problem and may take action if necessary. Boeing said it is working under the FAA's oversight to complete a software update that will permanently address the issue.
Airlines such as Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have requested that Boeing pause deliveries of 737s with the flawed software, while they would accept aircraft with an earlier version of the software.
