Boeing to Triple Seeker Production Under $14.7 Billion Lockheed Contract
Boeing has secured a $14.7 billion contract from Lockheed Martin to supply seekers for the Patriot air defense system's PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile. The contract, spanning seven years and issued as an Undefinitized Contract Action (UCA), will drive Boeing to triple its production capacity for the critical component. The seeker, mounted in the nose of the missile, is essential for detecting and tracking advanced threats like hypersonic weapons and ballistic missiles.
The company has already been preparing for this expansion, investing over $200 million since 2024 in its Huntsville, Alabama facility. This includes constructing a new 35,000-square-foot facility and ramping up production and hiring starting in early 2026. The production increase is expected to create several hundred jobs in the region.
This contract supports Lockheed Martin's broader goal of raising PAC-3 MSE missile production capacity from 600 to 2,000 missiles annually. The demand for interceptor missiles has surged due to conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, straining U.S. weapons stockpiles. In July 2026, the U.S. Army awarded Lockheed Martin a $58.6 billion contract to expand PAC-3 missile production.
Industry executives have raised concerns that Congress has not yet appropriated funding for these contracts, which could limit large-scale investments in components and facilities. However, Lockheed Martin emphasizes that long-term, predictable demand outlooks encourage industry investment and production capacity expansion.
