Boeing Union Accepts Latest Contract Offers After Strike Threat
A Boeing union representing over 17,000 engineers and technicians has accepted the company's latest contract offers after initially rejecting them. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees (SPEEA) voted to approve the four-year contracts with a majority in both the professional unit, which represents nearly 13,000 engineers and scientists, and the technical unit, which represents around 4,000 analysts, designers, technicians, and other specialists. According to the source, 67.62% of the professional unit and 53.48% of the technical unit voted to approve the contracts.
The new agreements will go into effect on October 7 and include significant pay increases, with the average base salary for professional unit members increasing from $152,000 to $208,000 and for technical unit members from $119,000 to $163,000. Additionally, the contracts provide a 10% wage increase for the pay period beginning Friday, followed by another 4% increase in March 2027.
Boeing's initial offer included aggregate wage pool increases of 29.4% over four years, the largest wage-pool increase for union members since 1983. The company also proposed three extra days of paid leave per year, lower limits on mandatory overtime, and more virtual work opportunities. However, the union representatives stated that despite reaching a new agreement, 'the work is not done,' and emphasized the need to rebuild trust between Boeing management and union members.
