Boeing Union Advises Members to Reject Contract Over Performance-Based Raises
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEAA), which represents over 18,000 technical and engineering employees at Boeing, is advising its members to reject a recently negotiated contract. The agreement, reached with Boeing in late July, would have increased wages based on inflation and individual performance, but many union members are concerned that this system could deny raises to high-performing workers.
'The last four years, if you're a high performer, you've been getting the same raise as a low performer,' a worker told the Seattle Times. 'We have no confidence that Boeing is going to change that.'
Meanwhile, concession workers at Target Field in Minneapolis, employed by Delaware North and represented by UNITE HERE Local 17, have gone on two one-day strikes over wages. Although their employer has agreed to raise their minimum wage to $20 an hour, union members are unhappy with the offer.
