Boeing Union Negotiations Resume Amid Strike Threat
Boeing and its largest white-collar union, SPEEA, are set to resume stalled contract negotiations on Monday. The union's roughly 17,000 members rejected Boeing's contract offer last week, citing a need for larger and immediate guaranteed wage increases.
A survey by SPEEA revealed that union members want more money for annual performance-based raises, as well as better annual cost-of-living adjustments. These were the second and third-highest priorities among nearly 13,000 union members who took part in the survey.
The current contract is set to expire on October 6, and Boeing has apparently prepared for a strike by posting contractor jobs this week. A work stoppage would further delay Boeing's 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 aircraft from entering service with airlines.
