Boeing Union Votes Looms: Strike Threatens Jet Deliveries Amid Revised Contract Offer
Boeing's largest white-collar union is set to vote on Thursday on whether its members accept a revised contract offer or move closer to a strike. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) has about 17,000 members who have already authorized a strike if the current contracts expire without a new deal.
The revised offer includes a 10% guaranteed raise on ratification and lifts annual guaranteed raises to a flat 4%, plus 2% performance increases possible. This is an improvement over the previous offer, which tied guaranteed raises to inflation up to 3%, plus up to 2.5% more tied to performance.
The average SPEEA member would get a 32% raise under the revised contract, compared with 26.5% under the first offer. Despite this, some union members remain opposed to the deal, citing concerns that the raises may not keep up with inflation and fuel prices.
