Boeing Whistleblower Case Takes Center Stage in New Netflix Documentary

A new documentary series on Netflix is set to explore the Boeing whistleblower case that has been shrouded in controversy. Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing follows Rory Kennedy and Emmy-nominated producer Mark Bailey as they investigate claims of safety concerns at the American airplane manufacturer.

The film looks into the employees of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner factory, where workers expressed concerns about parts being 'basically rotted' before fitting. Merle Mayers, a Quality Manager at Boeing between 1979 and 2023, shared these concerns with the filmmakers.

One whistleblower who inspired others to come forward was John Barnett, a former Boeing Quality Manager from 1985 to 2017. Barnett faced deposition for his role and voiced concerns about the safety culture at Boeing in the years leading up to his death in March 2024.
