Boeing Whistleblower's Death Explored in New Netflix Documentary
The Netflix documentary 'Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing' explores the story of whistleblower John Barnett, who died by suicide in 2024 after providing deposition materials in his case against Boeing.
Barnett was a quality manager at Boeing and had witnessed incidents that displayed a lack of safety and quality control within the company. He faced pushback or threats of retaliation when reporting these issues to management.
The documentary, directed by Oscar-nominee Rory Kennedy, is a follow-up to her 2022 investigative look at the two crashes of brand-new Boeing aircrafts in 'DOWNFALL: The Case Against Boeing.'
'Freefall' focuses on the whistleblowers who were trying to bring attention to Boeing's safety and quality issues. It features interviews with Naoise Ryan, the widow of Mick Ryan, one of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crash.
