Boeing White-Collar Union Rats New Contract
Boeing's white-collar union, SPEEA, has ratified a new contract for US workers, averting a potential strike. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) represents over 17,000 engineers and scientists at Boeing.
The union announced the vote results on Thursday, stating that workers had secured several key victories, including higher pay and benefits. According to SPEEA, the new contract will see average engineer pay rise to $208,000 from $152,000, while tech unit workers can expect an average salary of $163,000, up from $119,000.
The ratification comes after workers rejected an earlier proposal for a contract replacement. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg had previously warned that a strike could have damaging effects on the company's recovery and production efforts.
