Boeing White-Collar Union Rejects Contract Offer, Strike Possible
Boeing's white-collar union contract vote results are expected today, and it's unlikely to be good news for the company. According to Reuters, engineers and technical workers from SPEEA (Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace) overwhelmingly rejected Boeing's four-year contract offer.
The 17,000 members of SPEEA voted 64% against the tentative agreement, while techs were about 72% against it. This comes as a disappointment to Boeing, which had hoped to secure its largest white-collar union's support for the new contract.
Boeing's Ben Nimmergut stated that the company will now implement its strike contingency plan and divert funds set aside for the SPEEA-represented team to prepare for potential strikes. A work stoppage by SPEEA members could further delay Boeing's certification campaigns for its 737 Max 10 and 777-9 planes, both of which are already behind schedule.
