Boeing White-Collar Union Rejects Four-Year Contract Offer
Boeing's largest white-collar union, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), has rejected the company's four-year contract offer. The vote, which concluded on Friday, was overwhelmingly negative, with 17,000 members participating.
The union's negotiating team plans to survey its members to determine what it will take to approve a new contract. Despite Boeing's offer including wage increases tied to inflation and individual performance metrics, several SPEEA members felt that capping raises at 3% would leave their salaries behind the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which rose 4.5% in the Seattle area over the past year.
A work stoppage by SPEEA members could further delay Boeing's certification campaigns for its 737 Max 10 and 777-9 planes, both of which are already several years behind schedule.
