Boeing White-Collar Workers Vote on New Contract Offer with Higher Raises
Boeing's white-collar union workers are set to vote on a new contract offer that appears to have more momentum this time around. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) had rejected Boeing's first offer last month, citing concerns over wage proposals and guaranteed pay raises.
The second tentative agreement reached between Boeing and SPEEA includes a 10% guaranteed wage increase effective shortly after the vote and a guaranteed 4% annual raise for the length of the contract. The average pay increase would be 32% over its four-year length, with an increased wage pool by 6% for the next three years.
The union's negotiation team has received a more positive response to the second offer than the first one, but some members are still undecided or plan to vote no. One engineer in Everett called the 10% upfront raise 'phenomenal,' while another worker said it didn't go far enough to offset years of wages that didn't keep up with the rising cost of living in Seattle.
